Yeah, Substack is kinda-sorta social media, but it wasn't when I started here, and when it decided to *become* social media, I got pretty annoyed. :) I do occasionally glance at and post to Notes, but I really don't get much pleasure out of it. Quitting social media, for me, was like quitting drinking or quitting junk food—once I realized how much better I felt, it didn't even take any willpower. I just had no desire to do it anymore.
I *haven't* tried your husband's idea for the ghost birthdays yet—though I do intend to. I've just been waiting for a moment when I had a couple of hours free. :)
Ha! Yes, it’s a bit like everyone adopting your favourite band and then going off them. But I think really it was Notes that prompted me to start publishing my own writing, ironically - really useful when you’re starting from scratch and looking for like minds - so I can’t knock it. I’d been reading a few newsletters for years, but that was what made me jump in.
Glad you had a positive in real life Substack meet-up to discuss hell!
Substack is social media of sorts, but one I’m enjoying, full of readers and writers.
Did you sort the residual ghost birthday alerts?
