Hey all—
I have a thought I’ve been kicking around, and I’d love to know what you all think.
I’ve noticed lately that everyone around me seems to only want to hear me talk about the Bible—which might be because I’ve been hanging around a church more lately, but who knows!
My nonfic debut, Murder-Bears, Moonshine, and Mayhem: Strange Stories about the Bible to Leave You Amused, Bemused, and (Hopefully) Informed was originally intended as a one-off (especially when it didn’t sell all that well, lol), and I had decided to move on to focusing on dark fiction, but since that’s going nowhere, I’m wondering: Do y’all want to read more of my Bible thoughts?
I’m kicking around an idea for a regular (prolly monthly) feature here that we could call “Ask Me Anything (about the Bible)” or “Ask a PK” or “Ask a Church Receptionist” or “Ask a Reluctant Spokesman for a Dying Religion” or…something. You all would write in with your burning Bible questions, and I would answer them with aplomb and butt jokes. I’d obviously write from a neutral point-of-view—it wouldn’t be “Accept Jesus now or burn!!!”; it would be more like, “Here’s what modern scholars think; here’s what the rabbinic tradition thinks; here’s what the Church Fathers thought; etc.” With, again, lots of butt jokes. Tone would be similar to the book (or, if you haven’t read the book, this piece I wrote for Cracked a bajillion years ago).
And I’d obviously keep it light and accessible—while I’m not trying to hide my religious or political convictions here, I really am trying to keep this blog a fun place to hang out for a general audience, only addressing that stuff when it comes up and being as neutral and fact-based as I can. I try to make the mantra for all my writing “Entertain, then inform, then, maybe, persuade.” Or whatever.
Anyway! Would anyone be interested in reading something like that?
Your series have always been good. I'd love another one!
