Hey all. Quick announcement.
For anyone who wasn’t paying attention: Thus far, this newsletter / blog / Substack / whatever it is has been a monthly affair. Usually at the end of the month, I’ve been sending you all an essay (or short story, or something), followed by a few short extra bits (polls, flashbacks, a recommendation of something I’ve been digging). But those extra bits have been proliferating, and my essays have been getting longer, soooo…
Here’s what I’m thinking: Gonna start sending out emails twice a month. Around mid-month, I’ll do a shorter email with a quick update about my ✨glamorous life as a novelist✨1, along with the Poll of the Moment, Two Years Ago, and Stuff I’ve Been Enjoying Lately; then, at the end of the month, I’ll have something long-form for you—an essay, a listicle, a short story, or maybe a bit of poetry.2
If, for some reason, you only want the long-form stuff, or only want the updates, it is possible to unsubscribe from one or the other. Just click here to choose what you want. By default, you’re all signed up for both, but you’re free to change that!
Everyone good with that plan?
Your occasional reminder that “novelist” is not actually a real job. Anyone who introduces themself as a novelist is actually just bragging that their spouse makes bank. So, yes, that means I’m a trophy husband. Thank you for noticing.
Is it just me, or does “bit of poetry” sound way cooler and less cutesy than “poem”? Homer didn’t write 🌸poems🌸; he wrote 🔥🎸EPIC POETRY🎸🔥
