Hey all,
Quick announcement. Basically, my career, which has barely existed for several years now, has hit yet another major setback. I’ll spare you the details for the moment, but the short version is that my literary agent and I have agreed to part ways. And my enthusiasm for writing has been hanging by a thread for a while now, so this could very well be it for me.
I genuinely don’t know what’s next. But what I do know is that, for the moment, I need to take a step back from writing, clean out my brain, catch up on housework, and do some serious thinking about what I actually want out of the back half of my life. So I won’t be writing again unless I really, really want to.
The upshot is that this blog/newsletter/whatever is on indefinite hiatus until and unless I genuinely start to miss writing it. If you’ve got a paid subscription, I can understand if you feel a bit cheated by this, and I’d be happy to offer you a refund. Please reach out to me at luke.t.harrington@gmail.com, or click the message button below, and we’ll work out a way for me to get the money back to you.
In any case, I might eventually be back here—possibly sooner, possibly later—so no need to cancel your subscription, unless you really want to. In the meantime, it won’t be cluttering up your inbox.
Catch you all on the flipside.
—Luke
(Yes, Mom, you can call me)
Luke, I'm very sorry to hear this, and I hope one day you'll really, really want to write again. You have a strong and unique talent that we'll miss.
I will miss your writing here,.so I hope you come back at some point. And I still have Ophelia Alive on my to-read shelf! I do think writing is one of those things you should stop doing when it stops--at the risk of sounding twee--bringing you joy. I also agree with Flannery O'Connor that far from discouraging writers, universities don't discourage them enough. Having said all that, I hope you do return to fiction writing someday as well.
